New Chairman takes the reigns of Alton Branch

November 26, 2009 10:07 PM

Alton Branch AGM 2009Alton Liberal Democrats were pleased to welcome Cllr Adam Carew, Parliamentary Candidate for East Hants at their Annual General Meeting on 23 November. Also present were Cllr Jerry Janes, Lib Dem Leader at East Hants District Council and Cllr Allan Chick, who is Mayor of Alton as well as a Town and District Councillor. Many other councillors and activists were amongst those present.

At the meeting Dean-Paul Phillips, the well-known business man and previous manager of the Alton Assembly Rooms, handed over chairmanship of the branch to Mike Sanders.

Dean said that he was glad to hand over the reins now as he needs to devote more time to his busy and successful PR company, The Little Grey Cells. He added, "I am delighted a strong successor has come to the fore in Mike. I wish him well and look forward to serving him and the branch in any free time I have in the future." Dean stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate for East Hants District Council in the Holybourne by-election in October 2008 when he shocked the local Conservatives by making massive inroads into their majority.

The Liberal Democrats continue to draw on skills and expertise from the commercial and business sector of our local community. Mike Sanders lives at Four Marks and runs his own highly-regarded video-making company. Recent projects have included a public relations film for Gosport, and work in Brazil for the Rotary Club. As well as this he has made several short videos with the Parliamentary Candidate for East Hants, Adam Carew. Mike is eager to continue on the path set by Dean in making Alton Liberal Democrats more pro-active. He is determined to take the fight to the Conservatives in the General Election next year and lead a successful campaign to get Lib Dem candidate, Adam Carew elected to Parliament.

Alton Liberal Democrats are always out and about in the community. They will have a stall at the Alton Yuletide Fair on Sunday, 6 December and Saturday 27 February will be their big RACE NIGHT - a date not to be missed. For more details of these events, or to discuss joining the local Liberal Democrats, please phone Jacky Powers on 01420-563571.
