Lib Dems narrowly defeated

Alton Liberal Democrats were narrowly defeated in their challenge to clinch the Holybourne & Froyle by-election for EHDC.

The Conservative majority slumped from 198 to just 72.

The Lib Dem share of the vote increased from 24% to 45%

Leader of EHDC Lib Dems, Cllr. Jerry Janes said: "While disappointing that we didn't take the seat, it is an amazing result and reflects how hard those who helped work on this campaign. There is much encouragement to be drawn from this and I am only sorry that Dean won't be joining us this time round."
